Self Charging Phones?

Now you might think this title is a little bit of click bait, and you would be right… well sort of.

The new Huawei Mate 20 Pro is powered by a Kirin 980 chip, which meant nothing to me until I realised that its the same chip in the new iPhone X.

Charging the phone to 70% battery in 30 minutes, which is 160% faster than the iPhone X.

Now, here is where the self charging part comes in, which is probably why you clicked on this. The Huawei and its ridiculously fast charging capability as well as long battery life enables it to charge other phones through Qi wireless charging.

Brands that offer this feature include:

  • Apple
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • LG
  • Nokia

Which are the largest manufactures in the industry.

So, if you have a phone capable to Qi wireless charging, you can suck the battery out of your friends Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

But personally, I wonder how far this technology will go in the future; and what else can we eliminate. Because when you think about it, if your phone charges as fast as the Huawei and enables you to charge other peoples phones, why carry a portable charger?

And how much do we want eliminated from our lives?

Until next time

  1. Hi Lawra,
Great post! Its a real shame that despite the obvious added benefits that come with brands that aren’t Apple, Samsung and Google, people are refusing to buy these smaller brands due to them not being considered ‘cool.’ I guess they should be working on their marketing tactics!
I recently published a post on ‘image search’ that I think you might like! Feel free to check it out.

  2. Wow what an interesting technology being introduced! This new way of charging seems so “futuristic” to me. It’s awesome to see that Huawei have created this, however I don’t see it broadening to other phone manufacturing companies (ie. Apple and Samsung). It’s great in theory for a quick charge if you’re out and about with friends, but like you said it will be interesting to see if this same concept will be introduced in the future.

    1. Thanks Sophie!! I wonder if this technology is patented or protected by Huawei, thus preventing others from using it. I think the evolution will be more interesting than the current use of this tech

  3. Hey Lawra,
If new technology comes out where I don’t need to carry around a portable charger, then I’m all for it! It’s so crazy to see how much technology has advanced over time and I really appreciate the fact that brands are trying to cater to society’s ‘simpler’ needs. It’ll be interesting to see what comes along next.

  4. This is actually incredible. Cannot believe that batteries and their technology has progressed so far in such little time. For some perpective I recently saw in my Grandma’s new Volvo that it had wireless charging, and was blown away with that.

  5. Interesting post ! I have always carrying around my portable charger or even cable because my phone battery wont last whole day if my data is on all the time. I believe this technology will benefits to many people who wanted to bring less stuff when outing, including me.
